  • Characters: An advanced facial animation system allows for the creation of game characters with an unprecedented level of detail. Using 40 individual facial muscles, human characters convey a full range of human emotions, demonstrating appropriate and situationally relevant reactions to the hero's behavior.
  • Physics: All objects, from pebbles floating on water to two-ton trucks, behave naturally, obeying the laws of physics, taking into account mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy.
  • Graphics: Source uses a shader-based image generation system similar to the one used by Pixar to create Toy Story® and Monster's, Inc.®. This allows for the creation of stunningly beautiful and realistic game environments never before seen in computer games.
  • AI: Neither friends nor foes rush headlong into combat. They are able to assess threats, choose the optimal path through difficult terrain, and assemble weapons from what's at hand.
