DescriptionThe year is 2754. You will never feel the warmth of the sun beneath a blue sky, hear the wind in a tree, or sail the ocean, all because you were unfortunate enough to be born on a Ship bound to a fate you did not choose. You have never seen Earth, and you will never see Proxima Centauri. You are destined to live and die on the Ship in the name of the Mission, just like your father before you, and his father before him. The Ship is old. It had been in service for twenty years when it was renamed the Star Roverâ€”a fancy name for a modernized interplanetary freighter. No one is sure the Ship will actually reach its destination, and few care, since no one alive now will live to see it. Better to get on with your life and make the best of it. Colony Ship is an isometric, group-based RPG inspired by R. Heinlein's Orphans of Heaven. Your character's world is a "generation ship," a massive starship on a long voyage to colonize a distant planet. The ship's original government has been disbanded after a violent mutiny, and you must navigate a perilous path among your fellow passengers and warring factions vying for dominance. Your choices will determine who your friends and foes are. You open your eyes to a gray ceiling of metal panels, one of which flashes yellow, indicating the day shift. You've overslept, though it doesn't matter. With a groan, you roll off your filthy mattress and open the "window" to let in some fresh air. Like everything here, freshness is relative. The ship does its best to recycle air and water, but cargo holds aren't Her priority. You inhale metal and steaming oil, looking up. Four of the bridge's six projectors are still operational, casting a dim glow on the container towers of Cargo Bay 3, better known as the Pit, the Free City. Calling the Pit a city is a bit of an exaggeration, as is calling this reddish-brown liquid water. You've read that water is supposed to be clear and cities are supposed to be large, but no ship's inhabitants have ever seen either. Perhaps in a hundred years, water will look and taste like oil, and people will reminisce about the old days when it was the color of rust and tasted refreshingly bitter and tart. Such thoughts fill you with optimism, which keeps you going. The elevator crawls up a chute in the wall of the cargo bay, like a black steel insect lining the path to and from the bridge. Time to get up there and earn a few credits, but first, you need something refreshing to drink.
