Over the course of the game, you will encounter the New California Republic under President Wendell Peterson, the Bishop family of New Reno, the remnants of the Shi clan, the Leonidas Enclave, an army of super mutants, and the bloodthirsty Raider Alliance, united into a powerful alliance that challenges all and sundry. Interact with them through dialogue, gaining abilities and traveling with eight possible companions depending on your choices. Vault 18 is located in the heart of the California wasteland, high in the San Bernardino Mountains, where the legendary Wasteland Scouts have kept their secrets safe for decades, despite the wars raging beyond the vault's walls. In their old age, the Scouts have raised a new generation to take their place... if the rebellious foster children survive the Enclave threat brewing within their ranks. New California follows the story of your character, a foster resident of Vault 18, beginning on the night of the final big game of the Vaultball championship season. The consequences of your player's decision to evade or fight Johnny Matheson will shape the rest of their lives, leading them down the path of a computer nerd or a sports enthusiast. When war finally reaches the Vault after a significant figure reveals themselves to be a member of the Enclave, civil war erupts overnight. You will have to take part in a "revolution" in your home vault, escape from it as the "last hero," or, taking your trusted friends, each with their own "cockroaches in their heads," breathe the long-awaited and hitherto unknown air of the surface, see the sun, and... regret ever leaving. In 2260, the main factions of San Bernardino have been locked in a protracted internecine struggle for the past 20 years since the Enclave-NCR War, and 100 years after the Master's death at the hands of the Dweller from Vault 13. The Survivalist Raiders are the last survivors of California, refusing to be absorbed into the federal government, which they see as a threat to their isolated independence and a military dictatorship. Their leader, Boss Elsdragon, holds power with an iron fist over the gathered remnants of various hostile tribes destroyed by the NCR. The New California Republic arrived in Cajon Pass several years ago, defeating raiders who held land in Union City. Hoping to use the I-15 highway to expand their influence in Nevada, their leader, General Silverman,He must fortify his war-ravaged borders or face economic collapse due to the intervention of Senator Neville DuVille. Your character is unwittingly drawn into this conflict, having barely escaped Vault 18. Now the player must survive in a world where all factions, each with previous dealings with the Wasteland Scouts, seek him out for their own ends.
