Half-Life 2 has officially turned 20 years old, and to celebrate this milestone, we'd like to throw a celebration for the community of players who have been enjoying the game (or rediscovering it, either for the first time or anew) since November 16, 2004. Half-Life 2 continues the story of the iconic game approximately twenty years after the Black Mesa incident, now set in City 17âone of the largest remaining cities on Earth, located somewhere in Eastern Europe. At the beginning of the game, the enigmatic G-Man awakens Gordon from stasis and rather vaguely hints at the "great things" to come. Seconds later, Gordon finds himself on a train arriving in City 17, unarmed and without his protective power suit, which served as his faithful companion and repeatedly saved his life in the first game. Half-Life 2: Lost Coast expands on the Half-Life story by revealing how headcrabs overran the town of Ravenholm in Half-Life 2. Essentially, the level serves as a showcase for the updated capabilities of the Source engine. Half-Life 2: Episode One continues the storyline of Half-Life 2. The action picks up where Half-Life 2 ended. At the end of the previous game, protagonist Gordon Freeman prevented Chairman Wallace Breen from teleporting to the Combine capital and destroyed the dark energy reactor along with one of the Citadel's personal teleporters. At this point, time suddenly stopped, sound disappeared, and Alyx Vance, standing nearby, stood frozen a few meters from the center of the explosion. Out of nowhere, the mysterious G-Man appeared before the player and, after praising him for his work, placed Gordon back into stasis. Half-Life 2: Episode Two takes place immediately after the events of Episode One, in a forested area near the destroyed City 17. Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance must reach White Forest, the Resistance base, and deliver the Alliance's secret data captured in Episode One to the rebels.
