Open Country is an open-world wilderness survival game. The player assumes the role of a scout and must prove their worth. They must escape urban life to live as a true child of nature. Certain skills, such as hunting, construction, and physical endurance, are required. Gradually, the character hones their skills, learns to exploit the environment, and coexist with wild animals. The protagonist becomes a Master Adventurer and ventures into the wilderness without assistance. They acquire the necessary tools and weapons for survival. There are no permanent overnight spots; they must build fires and tents from materials found in the surrounding area. The area is home to a variety of wild and dangerous animals. Bears can be either hungry or well-fed, which affects their behavior when they see humans. The protagonist will encounter black panthers, bears, and other animals aggressive toward humans. Each enemy requires specific combat tactics. If a bear rears up, a shot to the heart can be fatal. The resulting pelts, rare antlers, and meat can be sold for money or used for other purposes. The gun shop offers over 30 unique items and upgrades for firearms.
