Silent Hill: Downpour is a survival horror game, the eighth installment in the Silent Hill series, developed by the Czech company Vatra Games and published by Konami in 2012. Silent Hill: Downpour was officially announced at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo, where the first trailer was shown. The game was released on March 13, 2012 in North America, and in Europe on March 30. The game is set in a fictional universe, partially reminiscent of the real world, in which everyday reality intersects with another, alternative world filled with monsters. The game's protagonist, Murphy Pendleton, a prisoner, is being transported by bus from one prison to another. Along the way, the bus crashes, sending Murphy to the town of Silent Hill. The gameplay involves solving puzzles, searching for items to advance the story, exploring locations, and confronting the protagonist and monsters. Unlike other games in the series, Silent Hill: Downpour features a large number of optional side quests.
