Description : The Long Dark is a thoughtful game focusing on survival and exploration, where players will have to make their own decisions as they navigate a vast, cold wilderness that has survived a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombiesâ€”just you, the cold, and what Mother Nature has in store for you. WINTERMUTE, part of the first story-driven season of The Long Dark, comprises two of five episodes. In December 2018, we completely overhauled both episodes with the Redux update, revamping the quest system, the story, dialogue, animation, and more. Long-haul pilot Will Mackenzie (the player character) and Dr. Astrid Greenwood are separated when a mysterious flash of light causes their plane to crash in the wilds of northern Canada. Desperate to survive and find Astrid, Mackenzie arrives in the town of Milton, where he begins to understand the scale of this silent catastrophe. His search for Astrid leads Mackenzie deep into the snow-covered wilderness. A mysterious trapper may be able to help him, but can he be trusted? The first two episodes of WINTERMUTE span approximately 15 game hours. The next three episodes are included in the game's price and will be unlocked for free as they become available. The characters are voiced by Jennifer Hale, Mark Meer, David Hayter, and Elias Toufexis (episode three). The music is composed by Cris Velasco. Survival Modeâ€”a freeform, storyless, survival-focused sandbox modeâ€”was polished over nearly three years in Early Access. Your goal is survival, and death is the only end. Write your own story with every game.

The game encourages players to make their own decisions, providing information but not answers. You must earn your right to live.

When you die in Survival Mode, your saved game is deleted. Every decision matters. [WINTERMUTE does not use the permadeath feature.]

Monitor your hunger, thirst, and temperature, trying to find a balance between finding resources and the energy expended doing so. Every action burns calories, and time is your most precious resource. Think before you act.

Over 100 pieces of equipment, including tools, lights, weapons, first aid supplies, clothing, and more.

Explore 50 square kilometers of northern Canada's wilderness in search of supplies. In winter. Dynamic changes in time of day, weather, wildlife presence, and other factors only complicate the process.

Hunt, fish, set traps, climb, map, search for food and life-saving gear, avoid encounters with dangerous animals, beware of hypothermia, frostbite, dysentery (and other unpleasant complications), and find and repair gear. You'll encounter wolves, bears, moose, rabbits, deer, ravens, and many more in future updates. Whether you hunt them or become prey is up to you.

Four difficulty levels allow you to choose the challenge that best suits you, from "Pilgrim," designed for a calm and thoughtful experience, to "Uninvited Guest," which will only take a week for even the most experienced players.
