The Long Dark is a thoughtful game focused on survival and exploration, where players must make their own decisions as they navigate a vast, frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombiesâ€”just you, the cold, and what Mother Nature has in store for you. Episode One: "Don't Go Gentle." Long-haul pilot Will Mackenzie (the player character) and Dr. Astrid Greenwood are separated when a mysterious flash of light causes their plane to crash in the wilds of northern Canada. Desperate to survive and find Astrid, Mackenzie arrives in the town of Milton, where the scale of this silent catastrophe begins to unravel. Episode Two: "Light Fugue." Mackenzie's search for Astrid leads him deep into the snow-covered wilderness. A mysterious trapper may be able to help him, but can he be trusted? Episode Three: "Crossroads Elegy." In this episode, players take on the role of Dr. Astrid Greenwood, and the story unfolds after the events that befell pilot Mackenzie in Milton. Players will discover a new location where they will meet new people. Along the way, we will learn more about what happened to the world before and after the geomagnetic flash that turned all the treasures of civilization into piles of metal. Episode Four: "Fury, Then Silence." Mackenzie has been captured by a gang of criminals. Desperate to escape one of the darkest corners of Great Bear Island, he must somehow outlive his greatest enemy. Will Mackenzie be able to continue his search for Astrid and save the innocent people trapped in this deadly trap? Episode Five: "The Story Ends." The final episode of Wintermute's story mode is now available. As Mackenzie and Astrid, you must battle the harsh elements and finally solve the mystery of the Northern Lights.
